What's eating at you today?
For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up....Psalm 69:9a
What is eating at you today?
In pursuit of the life I ought to be living I sometimes overlook the the path already set out before me. There are so many "good" things I could be doing. Drawn in one direction, and yet encouraged by others into another. I must remember to let God lead me. Each step that is taken can lead me closer or farther away from Him. My steps are not the same steps that others may take in life, even if our goals are similar.
Each individual snowflake falls to create a beautiful white blanket. One snowflake may travel to it's destination with ease in a single direction, while another may swirl about erratically, beautifully, before softly settling into it's place. The passions and desires that reside within me must be weighed against the Word of God and His will for my life. This sort of zeal is not accepted in todays world.
The loud cry of today is, conform, be like us!
Zeal for God is so little understood in our day that it brings the arrows of opposition in the direction of those who dare to stand for truth. Thankfully we are shielded by our faith in Him. It is Jesus who bares the reproaches aimed for His own.
Keep me in Your fervent love for Your house, Your service, Your glory, and Your people.
In all these things it is yet only a reasonable service to the King who suffered for me.
How can my zeal for such a One do anything but burn brightly in the darkness?

Red Jello
having difficulty
can't see clearly
the glass is smudged
the brain is foggy
all alone
fans are humming
red jello melts
the heat is searing
thoughts fade
e're they come to fruition
my own fault i know
sugar free jello yields no nutrition
no rhyme nor reason
for this little diddy
must remember fresh water
for neighbors little kitty
could fry an egg on the porch
soon time to light citronella torch
note to self when to heaven i go
ask God why He made pesky little mosquitoes
i remind myself He knows best
while i scratch and itch
eyelids drooping breath grows shallow
heat no excuse for heart so fallow
come close to hear these simple words
God made the bees and the birds
there is a wrong and there is a right
two things unable to hold tight
number one, relevancy we can never nail down
it moves quickly from town to town
number two, slips through our fingers onto the big toe
more jiggly than relevancy, none other than red jello

Reality or Fairytale Land?
"Fairytale Land" Monika Hardy |
If only life came with instructions, wait….it did!
Where do we make our heart at home...
Reality or Fairytale Land?
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. (Ecclesiastes 12:13)
We are to listen attentively to the heart of God with the intention of being obedient to the advice He gives us and to revere Him. When we place His commands in our hearts and obey them, they will surround and protect us in our journey.
- Take heed to the instruction Jesus left us in His love letters for us and walk circumspectively.
- Guard your heart and your mind with the Word of God to please Him.
If we want to know His will for our life, we must know His heart towards us. He will bring counsel to all the issues in our lives if we would only let Him. There is no need to walk this journey of life alone, for His Spirit brings comfort to the lonely and strength to the weak. In all of this, we will fulfill our duty to him.
I remember my mom telling me a German fairytale about a boy who was proud and always walked with his nose in the air. His mom told him that if he didn't change his ways soon that his actions would have consequences that he may not like. Being the stubborn, proud teen that he was, the boy refused to change his ways. The next day he went for a walk, with his nose proudly turned upward. His pride was his downfall for on that day it rained and he drowned.
Do we fear God, reverence Him out of a heart that loves Him, or do we turn our nose up in pride at Him and His words of love?
“In vain do we pretend to fear God if we do not make conscience of our duty to him.” Matthew Henry

Good health is such a blessing!
After walking through a decade of poor health and basking in the light at the end of the tunnel, I have found the lights are not attached to a train! What a wonderful feeling! In a few weeks I will be celebrating the one year anniversary of my Total Thyroidectomy. I have spent my entire life with a undiagnosed thyroid condition called Hashimotos Thyroiditis.
During a portion of the last 10 years I cared for my mother in law, before she passed away, who was afflicted with Alzheimers. The stress on the body and mind was incredible. I am thankful for the time my husband and I had with his mother. I am also thankful for my car accident that revealed a gall bladder emergency, which in turn revealed my thyroid issue. It is a precious thing to be in a state of wellness in both mind and body and spirit.
Thankfully, the health issues did not interfere with the years of homeschooling our sons. I look on those years with fond memories and now enjoy daughters in love, and grandchildren! This new season of life allows time for reflection. The improved health allows for the energy to gather my thoughts and projects. As you peruse this collection, may you find practical support and encouragement for your joureny through life.
